An unintended expatriate blogger behind SilverCanyonCue

Hi there, I'm Sophie

I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat residing in Berlin, Germany.

Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually evolved into a new chapter of life overseas.

Origins of It

Moving to Germany wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more substantial.

The first months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks felt harder than they should be.

The Adjustment Phase

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But slowly, routines formed. We discovered places that worked for us, met other families, and started building something that felt stable.

Why I Created SilverCanyonCue

Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.

This site exists to fill that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Germany.

What This Site Does (And Does Not)

This site is:

  • Hands-on experience from living in Germany
  • Centered on family life and everyday realities
  • Updated whenever something truly changes

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our stay in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording what we discover.

If you have any questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please reach out.

Best regards,

Sophie
